Tyler Wright Takes Sole Possession Of Jeep Leaderboard

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 June, 2017 - By virtue of her 3rd place finish at the Outerknown Fiji Women's Pro -- and Stephanie Gilmore's Round Four exit -- the reigning World Champ has wrestled away the Yellow Jersey and now sits alone atop the Jeep Leaderboard.

Ever the model of efficiency and consistency, Wright has bagged her fifth successive solid result in defense of her Title, and has yet to burn her get out of jail free card -- the ever-lurking throwaway result. She can thank Tatiana Weston-Webb in part for her good fortune.

Following Wright's loss to Courtney Conlogue in Semi No. 1, Sally Fitzgibbons needed only to win her Semi No. 2 heat against Weston-Webb to take back the Yellow Jersey in what's beginning to become an entertaining game of hot potato in the form of a yellow singlet. Weston-Webb squashed any chance of that happening, however, with her nail-biting win over the lightening-strike quickness of Sally in their semifinal clash.

Leaving Fiji, and heading into the longest gap between events on the schedule, Wright will hold a 1500 point lead over Fitzgibbons in the No. 2 spot. Gilmore falls back to No. 3, over 3000 points behind, but still well within reach of Wright and only halfway through the year. Conlogue's guaranteed to move up one spot to No. 4 with her Final showing in Fiji. When the race resumes eight weeks from now in late July at the U.S. Open of Surfing, the Top 5 will be scrambling to re-aquire their top form and re-gather any momentum they may have left in the waters of the South Pacific.
